Welcome to Escale!

Escale is a platform designed to share and discover train travel itineraries across Europe, perfect for finding inspiration or sharing your own adventures. Created by Enzo Bertevas, Vincent Gannier, Lucas Maillet, and Alexandre Guilmet, the site promotes eco-friendly and socially conscious travel.

On Escale, you can browse itineraries suggested by the community, using filters such as maximum distance, duration, or specific categories. You can also search by city. Each itinerary offers a detailed overview, including the total carbon emissions saved by choosing the train over flying, the total travel time and distance, along with a breakdown of each stage. You'll find photos, detailed information on every stop, a map of the route, reviews, and details about the user who posted it.

If you're logged in, you can bookmark your favorite trips and later access them to either remove the bookmark, book the journey, or mark it as completed. When you choose to book, Escale redirects you to a platform where the stops are already pre-filled with the correct cities. Once you've completed a trip, you can leave a review.

Escale also offers a carbon emissions comparison tool, allowing users to see the environmental impact of travel by car, train, or plane. And if you want to contribute, you can share your own travel experiences by adding cities, descriptions, photos, and the platform will automatically calculate distances, carbon footprint, and generate a map of your itinerary.

The site was built using Ruby on Rails, Ruby, Bootstrap, GitHub, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and various Ruby gems, and is hosted on Heroku with a custom domain name.
